About Trout Lake Resort

Our 7 Housekeeping Cabins... ...have completely furnished kitchens with gas for cooking, heating, and hot water, refrigerator and complete bathroom with shower.

You'll find good beds with plenty of blankets and all bed, bath, and kitchen linens.

The log siding or frame exterior with knotty pine interiors offer the rustic atmosphere and all the conveniences you would expect in your own private northwoods summer home. The cabins are well spaced for quiet and privacy either on the lakeshore or overlooking the lake, all with a spectacular view. All units are exceptionally clean.

For the Fisherman...

Trout Lake is noted for its lake, rainbow, and speckled trout fishing. No special equipment is needed for trout.  The spring fishermen troll the surface for lake trout, rainbows, and speckled trout.  As the water warms, the lake trout head for colder water, and trolling the deep areas of the lake produces some excellent fish.  But as that same water warms, the May Flies begin to hatch (usually in mid-June).  The lake then becomes desirable to all those crazy fly fishermen, and those feisty rainbows will feed on some type of fly into late September.   Trout Lake is 1 1/2 miles long and 3/4 mile wide, glacier-formed, spring-fed, crystal-clear water with spots in excess of 100 feet deep, which provides the excellent habitat for the native trout.  We are the only resort on the Gunflint Trail with a trout stream just a short walk from your cabin door, one of the many excellent streams nearby that flow into Lake Superior. We maintain boats on other lakes that offer walleyes, northern, and bass. These lakes are a short driving distance from here and are easily reached with no portaging.

Bring the Family...

and find plenty to do. The daytime play area with horse shoes, volleyball and swings features a screen house where guests enjoy a friendly card or board game. Picnic tables and a chuck wagon grill are ready for your cookouts. Sit around an open fire on the cool northwoods evenings - touch the stars, perhaps get a chance to see dazzling northern lights and listen to the haunting yodel of the resident loon family. The lake is cold and clear and is excellent for swimming, snorkeling and diving during July and August.

A wide variety of hikes and trails are available to suit your style. Surround yourself with the fragrance of fresh forest air, feel the spray of a waterfall, seek the small colorful wildflowers, mushrooms and ferns, pick wild berries, see birds and wildlife and take pictures of it all. Your stay here will give you all the satisfying tranquility of a deep-woods experience, although you are less than 1/2 hour from the shops, restaurants and churches of Grand Marais. Enjoy a day on the rugged shores of Lake Superior, visit many historical points of interest. The Gunflint Hills Golf Course is only 15 minutes from your door.  Our fall colors are spectacular. The brilliant reds of our maples combine with the golds of birch and aspen to bring a positively exhilarating experience.
